Landmark study in the journal Nature links over 200 historic heatwaves to the emissions of specific fossil fuel producers.
The study estimates the emissions from the operations and production of more than 100 “carbon majors”, such as ExxonMobil, BP, Saudi Aramco and Shell.
The fossil fuels produced by the top 100 ‘carbon majors’ – ie, ExxonMobil, BP, Saudi Aramco, etc., account for a staggering 60% of all human-caused CO2 emissions over 1850-2023, the study says.
