New report examines the public heath impacts caused by emitted air pollutants including SO2, NOX, VOCs and PM2.5, from private-equity-backed coal-fired plants, LNG export terminals and oil & gas extraction facilities across the United States.
The emissions from these facilities caused approximately 1,000 deaths, 580,00 cases of asthma, 1,500 ER visits, and 27,000 lost work days.
The report, from a consortium of organizations including the Private Equity Stakeholder Project, details local health impacts at specific fossil fuel facilities across the U.S. with PE ownership.
The most harmful facility in this study is the General J.M. Gavin coal plant, in Cheshire, Ohio. The plant is estimated to cause $1.7 billion in human health impacts per year. The facility is now owned by PE firm Energy Capital Partners
